Nerja Costa del Sol

Information

Cliffs view Nerja, eastern town of Malaga’s Costa del Sol, situated to 52 km from it, and to approximately one hour and a half from Granada. It is the most important tourist centre on the Share of Axarquia. Flanked by a dramatic Mountain Range, (Sierra Tejeda y Almijara), leans on the Mediterranean from a 20 metre high cliff known as Balconde Europa. Thanks to those mountains, Nerja is protected against the cold North winds, and benefits from a sub-tropical climate.

Nerja boasts 13 kilometres of beaches with powdery sand and sparkling clear water, with all kind of facilities and services, as it is the case of Burriana Beach, which is distinct with the "Blue Badge" and "Q", as well as small and "virgin" beaches situated near Maro Cliffs.

Burriana beach In the old quarter of the town we have the famous Balcon de Europa, which dates from the 9th cent. and at the moment is a viewpoint to Calahonda and Caletilla beaches. Next to the Balcon de Europa, we can see the 17th Century "El Salvador" Church, built in mudejar style. Also we have the 16th Century "Ntra. Sra. de las Angustias" Hermitage with the paintings of Alonso Cano.

Nerja keeps alive its traditional celebrations, and celebrates them with great enthusiasm, as for instance, Carnival, Easter, May Day, San Isidro’s Peregrination, St John’s Eve, Virgen del Carmen feast, fair, etc. Also, it is necessary to outline the well-known reputation of the Neja Caves' festival which are celebrated in July in one of its halls. Nerja Caves is the third most visited monument of Spain, its attractive is based on the beautiful stalagmites and stalactites formed through millenia which along with the illumination and sound completes the natural beauty, without contempt of its magnificence.

Nerja offers for nature and strolling lovers, spots of amazing beauty , as it is the case of the Cahorros, in the Chillar river-course, the ascension to Cuesta del Cielo, or the walk to Frigiliana via the Higueron river-course… Other activities are also possible, diving school, 4x4 routes, horse-riding, water skiing, etc If you are a golf lover we have some Golf courses nearby, (15 minutes to Baviera Golf in Algarrobo, 30 minutes to Añoreta Golf in the Rincon de la Victoria).
